So, you've mastered my Fire Text tut, and you now want to animate it. Good, you've come to the end of your search.

If you haven't read my Fire Text tut yet, I recommend that you do, because this tut picks up right in the middle of it.

Ok, lets get started. You should have already completed half of the Fire Text tut before you got here, if you haven't, go here and work your way down until you reach the link to this page...I'll wait...

Ok, here we go now.

You should have one layer, that looks something like this:

Duplicate this layer at least ten times. You should have 10 identical layers, it is not required, but it is sometimes helpful to name them (Layer 1, Layer 2, etc.) Here we are:

Wonderful. Turn them on their sides by clicking Image > Rotate Canvas > 90o CW:

Now apply the Wind filter, from the left, to each layer (Filter > Stylize > Wind,) remember to set the Direction to From the Left. Do this to all ten layers, then flip them back right by clicking Image > Rotate Canvas > 90o CCW:

Now apply the Ripple filter to each layer (Filter > Distort > Ripple.) When you are done, you should look like this:

Awesome, we're getting there, almost done. Now that you have the fire of each layer, you need to add the clear text back, go ahead and type your name again with the same font and size that you used initially. Once you have done that, rasterize the text layer (Right-click > Rasterize Type) and center it (Ctrl+a, Ctrl+x, Ctrl+v.) Duplicate this layer 10 times and distribute it among the fire layers, like this:

Now merge each text layer with the Fire one below it, so you have ten layers with ten different flaming texts on it:

Now we're ready for the fun part. Open your image in ImageReady by clicking File > Edit in ImageReady. The screen that opens should look like this:

We need to add all those layers on the right to our animation, so click the little right arrow in the top-right hand corner of the animation window and click Make Frames From Layers, you will get this:

At this point, you can test it out by clicking the little play button in the animation window, go on, click it. As you can see, its a little fast, we can fix this, however. See under each frame where it says 0 sec., well click on that the select 0.1 seconds for each frame. Here we are:

At this point, if you like how this looks, you can save it by clicking File > Save Optimized As... and selecting a save location. However, there are a few more things you can do to make it flow a little more. Select your first frame, then, while holding down shift, click your last frame, this should select all frames. Click the tween button (), then select the last layer and click tween again, set the Tween With option to First Frame and leave the rest default, and click OK:

Now click play, you will notice two things, one, the opacity changes, and two, its kinda slow, like retarded fire. We can fix both of these. First, to fix the opacity fluctuations. Create a new layer (layer, not frame) drag it to the bottom, and fill it with black:

That fixes that, now for the slowness. Remember how we set the duration of each frame to 0.1 seconds, well now we're changing it back to 0 sec., click the 0.1 sec. under each frame and set it to No delay:

Now click play. That looks better, doesn't it. Now all you have to do is save it (File > Save Optimized As...) and you're done. This is what I got:
