In this short tutorial I will teach you the basic method of creating a panorama using Halo 3's Screenshot feature. This is a simple procedure, much easier than one would assume, so let's get started.
You will need:
Photoshop CS3
OR
Autostitch
First you'll need your screenshots, I recommend taking at least 8 or 9, but more is always better, though it will increase the time it takes to stitch the images together:
Great, you've got your images, first thing you want to do is download them all to a directory on your computer where you will remember them, something like C:\Panoramas, it's up to you. Once you've done that, open up Photoshop (If you don't have CS3, you'll need to use Autostitch, tutorial for using Autostitch is below) and click File > Automate > Photomerge, a dialog like this will open:
Make sure Auto is set under layout options, and Blend Images Together is checked. Click Browse and navigate to the folder where your images are stored, select them all (click the first and shift+click the last, or ctrl+a should do the trick), click ok, this will add all your images to the merge queue:
Now that those are all added, click Ok and start the merge. This might take a while, it needs to load each image, compare them to one another, and blend like areas of the images together. Like I said, the more images you took, the better the result, usually, but the longer it will take. Once it's done, Photoshop will give you an image that will probably look something like this:
As you can see, this isn't what you want, but to make it appealing, nothing could be simpler. click the select tool ( ) and crop the image so that the transparent pixels are gone. The easiest way I've found to do this is to make a small selection in the middle, then click Select > Transform Selection and use the handles to expand the selection to the borders of the image, you'll probably need to expand the image to full size to see the edges better:
Now just click Image > Crop, this will erase the edges, leaving you with a nice clean image:
All you have to do now is merge the layers (right click the layers and click Merge Visible), and save the image and you're done. If you want, you can mess with the colors and contrast to make it look a little better, or you can leave it, it's really up to you!
Autostitch Mini-Tut
Autostitch is a panorama tool that uses the same basic methods as Photoshop CS3's Photomerge. The setup is a little different though. First thing you need to do is open AS and click Edit > Options, set the scale to 100%, and the JPEG quality to 100. Click ok.
Next click File > Open and navigate the the folder where you saved the pictures and select them all, click open.
AS is, as the name suggests, automatic, as soon as you open the images, the program will start the process of stitching them together. You have a progress bar that tells you what it's doing, and when it's done, the image, saved as a JPG, will open in the default viewer for JPGs. To crop it you can either use Photoshop (any version), or even paint.
And finally, here is the resultant image:
