Go to Bottom - Back to Photoshop tutorials - Back to all tutorials This tutorial was written by: HaLo2FrEeEk In this tutorial, I will show you how to make the easiest, most realistic starry sky, with only a few simple steps. Ok, first open a new canvas, at least 640x480 pixels, and fill it with black: 
Click Filter > Noise > Add Noise and use these settings: Amount: 15% Distribution: Gaussian Monochromatic: Checked Click ok, you will have rendered some noise onto your canvas. Create a new layer and drag it to the top of the list, fill it with black and click Filter > Add Noise (top of the list,) or simply type ctrl+f (last used filter.) You will have a second layer with slightly different noise pattern: 
Now select the top layer and set the blending mode to Overlay, then right click the top layer and click Merge Down: 
Now, you can leave it how it is, or you can increase the contrast to make a fuller star field. To do this, simply click Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast and drag the contrast up, I've found that 20-25% makes for the most realistic looking star field. And this is the final product: 
This can be used for many practical purposes, but the original reason I figured this out was for a Star Wars animation my friend was making, which turned out quite good. Questions?
